3 Technical Info

The System 3 Board Set

4 Problems and Fixes

4.1 Power Driver Issues

This may not apply to some, as MPU might have been part of it.

4.2 MPU Issues

4.3 Power Supply Issues

4.4 Display Driver Board

Possibly doesn't apply to some, can't think of an example.

4.5 Flipper Issues

Flipper flutter--Check the EOS switch to verify that the wires don't have a cold solder joint issue. Flipper weakness--The EOS switch and flipper button switches can cause issues if they're not clean and adjusted properly. Replacing the EOS switches can improve strength dramatically.

4.6 Lamp Matrix Issues

If your game is burning up lots of lamps quickly, check your voltage setting underneath the playfield. A setting of 110v can cause bulbs to burn out too quickly, 120v fixes the issue.

4.7 Game Specific Fixes

On Stargate (and probably some other games like Big Hurt) you are occasionally asked to answer a question with the flipper buttons. The flippers still work but the button selection doesn't. What has happened is one of the wires at the coil has probably broken lose. On my Stargate, I could select with the left button but not the right button, but all flippers still worked. Searching underneath revealed the broken wire.

Stargate--left upkicker can't get the ball up to the ramp. Upgrading to the strongest coil will solve the problem.

Stargate--On the shot along the far right side, it will occasionally get rejected. Putting in blue foam in the back will stop the rejections.

Stargate 'stuck in tourney mode' or something like that. There is a daisy chain of wires going from the playfield to the tourney mode switch. If one of those wires breaks off (like on one of the kickers) the game may get stuck in tourney mode or something along those lines.

Stargate--drop targets not resetting during gameplay. This is simply a cleaning issue. When the drop targets get dirty, the coil doesn't always have enough power to reset them. Cleaning the targets fixes the issue.
