3 Technical Info

Spooky Pinball does not include manuals or schematics with their machines. They also do not include a prop rod to hold the playfield in a comfortable position for servicing.

3.1 Boards

3.1.1 PinHeck

Early game titles use the pinHeck System

Dominos uses a pinHeck MPU/driver board manufacturerd by MacroFab. It has a CR-2032 coin cell battery for memory/settings backup. This board feeds a "line level" audio signal out to the cabinet mounted audio amplifier and video data to the LCD monitor. The fuses on this board are all 5mm x 20mm size.

3.1.2 P3-ROC

Total Nuclear Annihilation, Alice Cooper's Nightmare Castle, and Rick and Morty use the Multimorphic P3-ROC board system with a computer-based motherboard.

Rick & Morty games have an Asrock J4105-ITX motherboard accompanying the P3-ROC boards.

3.1.3 Pinotaur

Halloween & Ultraman use an updated version of the pinHeck system called Pinotaur.

3.1.4 Warden

Scooby Doo, Looney Tunes, and Texas Chainsaw Massacre use Spooky's "The Warden" system that was developed in-house.

3.2 Power Supplies

There are three power supplies in the bottom of the cabinet. One is an enclosed screw terminal dual output (+5v @ 6A, +12v @ 3A) which provides power to both the cpu board and the LCD display. Another enclosed screw terminal single output power supply provides power to the coils (48v @ 12 amps). The smallest power supply is a "laptop" style which provides power to the cabinet audio amplifier mounted near the cashbox.

3.3 Display

The display is an LCD monitor very much like a color DMD and operates on 12 volts DC.

3.4 Speakers

There are a total of three speakers in a Dominos pinball. One 8 inch round woofer is in the bottom of the cabinet and two 4 inch square mid-range tweeters are in the backbox attached to the speaker/display panel.

3.5 Flippers

Dominos uses off-the-shelf Williams WPC flipper assemblies.

3.6 Cabinet Parts

Legs are 28.5 inches long Williams and are powder coated a dark gray color. Leg bolt mounting plates are Williams # 01-11400-1. Ball shooter assembly is Williams # B-12445-6. Coin door is made by Happ Controls.

4 Problems and Solutions

4.1 Power Supplies

Coil power supply is a Mean Well # SE-600-48 (Jameco Electronics # 295929) which is single output, enclosed, 48 volts @ 12 amps. Logic and Display power supply is a Mean Well # RD-65A (Jameco Electronics # 323505) which is a dual output, enclosed, 5 volts @ 6 amps and 12 volts @ 3 amps. There is also a "laptop" style power adapter which provides +12 volts to the cabinet's audio amplifier.

4.2 Solenoid Problems

Coil list for Dominos:

  • 23-800 Pop Bumpers.
  • 23-800 Scoop kickouts.

  • 23-800 Knocker (if installed).

All coils have diodes.

Unknown number for magnet coil (appears same as a Williams # 20-9247). There is a 5 ohm @ 50 watts Dale # RH-50 high power resistor wired in series with the magnet coil.

Solenoid driver transistors are labeled SOL0 through SOL23 and are all type IRL540PBF mosfets. Fuse F1 (3 amp slo-blo) controls solenoid bank "0" (coils 0 through 7). Fuse F2 (3 amp slo-blo) controls solenoid bank "1" (coils 8 through 15). Fuse F3 (3 amp slo-blo) controls solenoid bank "2" (coils 16 through 23).
