The original 12V 15W lamps had a large bayonet base (BA15s) and smaller glass bulb shape (G-6).  Identical in size (but not volts or watts) to a standard #89 lamp.  Today, the only available 12V 15W replacement with a BA15s base is a #7533 bulb, which is a longer (2.0") and wider (1.04") glass bulb with a S-8 glass bulb shape.  In comparison, the original lamps with a G-6 glass bulb shape were 1.44" long and 0.75" wide.  The #7533 is not very common, but is still manufactured by [http://cecindustries.com/attachments/miniature/7533.pdf CEC Industries].  Use of this bulb requires some rework of the mounts for the bulbs to add spacers and longer screws, and in some cases (i.e. the lamps used for the "eyes" behind the backglass), cutting the plastic tubes that surround the bulbs to focus the light and replacing them with larger tubes.  A downside to using #7533 bulbs is the average life hours is short, namely 75 hours.

The 12V 3W flasher lamps have a smaller BA9 bayonet base.  The direct replacement with the same exact electrical and physical specs is a #3894 bulb (also [http://cecindustries.com/products/miniatures/mindetails.php?SentPartNum=3894 available from CEC Industries]).

The 12V 3W flasher lamps have a smaller wedge base.  The closest available replacement is a #161 bulb that is 14V and 2.66W. This has been tested to work in the game.

Another option is to change the resistors used to drop the voltage for the flashers, so that more commonly available lamps with the smaller G-6 glass bulb shape could be used.  Each set of flashers uses a resistor board (sometimes 1 board is used for a single flasher, sometimes multiple flashers share a board) to drop the voltage used by the flashers.  In theory, you could determine a different mix of resistors to use to get the desired voltage for the flasher lamps you want to use.  If anyone has any experience doing this, please share the details in this forum...

1 Introduction

This pinball machine was manufactured in 1987 by a Spanish company, Universal de Desarrollos Electronics, S.A. Their various trade names were Unidesa/Cirsa/Stargame.

It is horror-themed and has both 2 and 3-ball multiball.

The boardset is unique and the playfield parts are as well.

The manual for the game is in Spanish. The available scans of the manual available on the internet (see the manual on IPDB) are not good quality and there are some mistakes (to be pointed out below).

2 Technical Info

There are 4 major boards used in this game:

  • Power Feed Board (Carta Alimentacion)
  • Solenoid Driver Board (Carta Potencia)
  • CPU Board (Carta Control)
  • Sound Board (Carta Sonido)

The game used LED displays and there are 4 displays for the players and a credit/match display. As a result, there is not high voltage generation in the machine.

The basic architecture of the game's electronics is:

  • The Transformer sends various A/C voltages to the Power Feed Board
  • The Power Feed Board turns most of these A/C voltages to D/C voltages through the use of 4 bridge rectifiers and sends those voltages to other boards in the game. Also the Power Feed Board holds most of the fuses on the game (the only exception being the main fuse, which is located in the bottom of the cabinet, next to the transformer).
  • The Solenoid Driver Board is responsible for driving the solenoids (actually coils and flashers) in the game.
  • The CPU Board runs the game code and is responsible for driving the displays, the feature lamps, and handling switches
  • The Sound Board generates sound and speech

2.5 Flasher Lamps

This game uses two types of flasher lamps:

  • 12V 15W (9x)
  • 12V 3W (2x)

Lamps with these specs are difficult to find.

The #7533 is not very common, but is still manufactured by CEC Industries. Another more direct replacement may be #15025 bulbs. These have the exact electrical specs needed (12V 15W), but also have the smaller glass bulb size (1.48" long and 0.75" wide) in the BA15s base. Testing of #15025 lamps is pending.

Another thing to note is where multiple flashers are used together to be driven by a common transistor (i.e., the skull, the eyes on the backglass, the sun on the backglass, the bat in the topper) they are wired in series. So if a single bulb buns out in the series, the whole set will not light.

More details are t.b.s.
