1 Terminator 2: Judgement Day Shop Out Guide

Date: December 3, 2004.

A few notes about getting started. I find that it's easiest for me to just get a bunch of paper cups, write the name of the playfield part I'm working with on the paper cup and then throw all the screws and nuts into that cup. I find that if I have a cup for say the sling shot plastics, when I go to reassemble it's pretty easy to deduce what goes where. Pictures are always a big help. Also, whenever possible put the screw or nut back into the part it came out of.

And take plenty of pictures. If you have a digital camera, go overboard, you can always delete them after things are back together.

And lastly, I found this a rather easy pin to shop. Things come a part in logical manner; everything you need to remove has connectors (except for the pop bumpers). There are no big surprises and the order is not that critical.

2 Parts to have on hand

Replacement plastics if you can get them. The skull plastics are usually broken.

Bulbs - thirty or so #44 or #47

twenty #555

a few #89 flashers

Rubber ring kit - see chart at end

Replacements for anything that is obviously broken, pop bumpers, for example.

4 Start here

  1. Remove 3 balls.
  2. Raise playfield and disconnect wires to ramps (basically any wire running though a hole to the top of the playfield). Make sure all wires can come up through the holes without any encumbrances. Label connectors so they will be easier to reconnect. I use a sharpie permanent ink pen

and use the letters of the alphabet - a,b,c...

  1. Lower playfield and remove the plastic with a skull on it in the upper left corner of the playfield on metal ramp - has 4 hex head sheet metal screws 3/8"
  2. Remove Hunter-Killer Ship plastic, if you have one. You can get repro H-K ships from http://www.bayareaamusements.com.
Remove metal guide over the 5 white targets - machine screws with washers holds it and the H-K ship wire.
  3. Remove left habittrail - has nylock over topside of slingshot plastic and 1/2 inch screw with self washer.
  4. Remove plastics on the left side of the playfield

"t2-shop-guide_files\upper-right.jpg" "t2-shop-guide_files\upper-right2.jpg"

  1. Remove switch from right habittrail above right pop bumper. Put screws back in switch for safe keeping.
  2. Remove right habittrail, nylock nut. Clear plastic over mounting bracket behind 3 red targets. 6-32 machine screw 3/4" with star washer and regular washer.
  3. Remove left slingshot plastic.
  4. Remove right slingshot plastic.
  5. Remove lite kickback plastic and the gate for the ball shooter lane.
  6. Remove right ramp with "skynet command center" on it.
  7. Remove pop bumper caps.
  8. Remove plastic under ramp to right of pop bumpers.
  9. Remove metal shield in front of lower pop bumper – 2 nylock nuts
  10. Remove plastic at end of shooter lane.
  11. Remove playfield from holding pins and pull forward for access to parts in the very back.
  12. Remove left metal ramp.
  13. Remove ball gate behind the single drop target.

"t2-shop-guide_files\skull1.jpg" "t2-shop-guide_files\skull2.jpg"

  1. Remove plastics around skull and lift out the skull assembly.
The habittrail that goes to the cannon needs to be removed at this time because the skull goes through it.

The screws that hold the VUK end are obscured by the skull, so move the skull out of the way, remove the screws and lift it and the skull out.

"t2-shop-guide_files\upper-back.jpg" "t2-shop-guide_files\upper-right-stripped.jpg"

  1. Remove plastic in back of canon
  2. Remove plastic from left corner.
  3. Remove plastic from right corner.
  4. Remove plastic to right of pop bumpers.
  5. Remove cannon mounting by pulling the 1/2 inch e-clip and

unplugging the harness, the gun will lift right off of the playfield. Remove the bushing and plate below it 4 phillips head screws and four 3/16 inch nuts below the playfield.

  1. Remove star posts.

Note, the right rear star post has a ball gate that goes to the metal guide and post for ramp on it. And the post in front of it has clear plastic ball trap protector.

  1. Remove metal ball guides in rear.

NOTE: Metal plate behind saucer at rear of lane guides has side rail wood screw in middle of two hex head screws.

  1. Replace rubber rings and rubber posts.

Light bulbs - 35 #44 (or 47's) and 11 #89's on playfield. "t2-shop-guide_files\stripped.jpg" "t2-shop-guide_files\posts-complete.jpg"

To reassemble follow these steps backwards.

As you assembly the ramps, make sure you run wires under the playfield before you put the ramp in place.

It's also a good idea to run a lamp test once you've replaced all the lamps and before you start putting everything back.

Good luck - end of guide.
