Theatre of Magic,

Hardware solution for software bug.

Swash4.gif

At the start of a game and when shooting the trunck 4 times it wil turn to the side with the hole. BUT when during the rotation the trunc is hit again and the eddy sensor detects a ball, the movement is reversed and sometimes the trunc stays half way positioned and is blocked , or returns to his initial position instead of presenting the side with the hole.

This is a know software bug. To avoid this, i did applied the following mod.

I place a relay in parallel with the motor that rotate the truck, so as long as the trunck moves the relay is excitated.

I pass the 12 volt for the eddy sensor trought the NC contacts ( nomally closed) of this relay that way any detection of a ball hitting the trunck during rotation is no more possible.

Here is the schematic....

Find the schematics of the motor control board an the eddy sensor board at page 3.20 of the TOM manual.

I mounted the relay on a small board and used connectors to connect it that way i have no soldering to do under the playfield.

The motor connector comes to the board and returns via a paralel connector to the motor drive board, at the same time te relay coil is connected at pin 4 and 1 of this connector.

The same for the eddy sensor board the connector normally on the eddy sensor board comes at the relay board an the parallel connector returns to the eddy board , here only pins 1,3 and 4 are connected in parallel pin 2 goes to the relay contact , one to the common the other pin two to the rest contact .

The small 4x4 cm board with relay and the connectors . Big pin connector for the motor connection , small pins for the eddy sensor board connector.

Back side, upper wires bringing pin 1 and 4 of the motor connector to the relay coil

and all pins are connected at the same time in parallel.

Lower side pins 1,3 and 4 in parallel and pins two going to the realy contacts ( brown and white wire)

The small board is mounted at the upper left side of the trunc motor using the excisting screw.

This way the connector coming from the eddy sensor board is long enought.
